Payment usually embodies a very particular kind of relationship, a transactional one in which the 'client' supplies an infinitely fungible resource called 'money' in return for some good or service.
But other forms of exchange are possible, and may even be preferable, especially if we are moving towards a future of greater communal interaction and responsibility. So why not think about whether there is something else we can exchange: perhaps a friendly introduction to a local wisdom-keeper or change-maker; or a basket of locally-sourced food; or an opportunity for further collaboration; and so on? All I ask, if we go down this route together, is that the thing you offer is something that you genuinely believe will benefit the place that we are engaged with, and will also help me to continue this work.
